What Are Fleas

April 16, 20251 min read

Fleas are small little critters about 1/8 of an inch long. They're reddish-brown and can jump more than 8 times their body length! The female fleas are especially ravenous, sucking up blood equal to 15 times their body weight a day. If you’ve heard about flea dirt, they are basically the fleas’ partially digested blood that they are leaving behind as waste, which eventually also serves as a food source for the larvae!

Fleas are often just an itchy nightmare, but they can be a bit more serious as well. Parasites can cause skin issues for our furry friends and in extreme cases, anemia. In addition, fleas can be tiny carriers of tapeworms, which they spread to both pets and people. Which is why it’s so important to address any flea situations as soon as you suspect that your home may have been swarmed by the nasty parasites.

However, if you have an unclear pest issue or would like a detailed inspection you can contact our lovely staff. Nothing beats the natural pest control methods we offer  free insect ID, expert recommendations, and guidance!
